INTRODUCTION
The aim of this dossier is to review the fundamental principles governing the operation of attack systems.
To produce a metal part using a foundry process, the most widespread technique today is to make an impression of it in a sand mold.
In addition to tool design and part feed by feeder, mold design also includes the study of cavity filling by an etching system, whose role is to deliver to the cavity, within a given time, the quantity of alloy required to produce the part.
The experimental study of the operation of etching systems, first carried out by hydraulic analogy, then validated on real castings, has been completed by the study of certain dross retention devices which do not rely on filtration but on their decantation
It should be noted, however, that the problem of designing and dimensioning etching systems is still evolving. This is the case, for example, with in-mold filtration of oxidizable or non-oxidizable alloys in the liquid state, using multicellular materials or ceramic foam [ ].
