9. Backfill, access and assembly platform

9.1 Ballast backfill

The dimensioning of wind turbine foundations takes into account the ballasting provided by backfill placed above the concrete footing. In principle, this consists of excavated spoil, which is recompacted.

Proctor compaction tests (cf. standard NF P94 093) are carried out as part of the preliminary geotechnical study in order to determine the weight by volume of the ballast backfill. The apparent weight by volume of ballast backfill is generally between 18 and 20 kN/m 3 . However, some recompacted chalk may have lower densities, in the order of 17 kN/m 3 .
