ABSTRACT

Within the framework of the Grenelle Environnement Forum and the December 2002 European directive on the energy performance of already existing buildings, certain objectives have been set regarding consumption reduction. In order to meet them, a large number of actions have been envisaged both on the legislative and technical plane in order to rehabilitate our built heritage. However, characterizing the performances of these buildings is not easily achieved, whether it be it a simple characterization or a multiple one including a multi-criteria analysis. A methodological approach of the energy diagnostic and the choices to be made is essential and it is strongly recommended that they should integrate the enriching methods which were recently developed by the International Energy Agency.

 INTRODUCTION

This article is set in the renewed context of European Directive 2010/31 of May 2010 on the energy performance of buildings, and European Commission Recommendation 2019/786 of May 2019 on the renovation of buildings.

The quest for energy efficiency in existing buildings focuses on three objectives:

  • overall reduction in energy demand, with equivalent or improved service;

  • energy optimization of the project, the initial reference frame being provided by the diagnosis ;

  • multi-criteria study of possible rehabilitation actions.

The aim of this article is to present the characterization of building performance with a view to rehabilitation. It sets out the methodological framework for energy diagnostics, as well as simple and multiple characterizations of the energy performance of existing buildings.
