Single-crystal fibers are difficult to grow using conventional crystal growth methods. Methods for crystallizing preformed crystals in slabs are available. These involve shaping the liquid to be crystallized through capillary tubes of various geometries, mainly the EFG and Stepanov . On the other hand, these techniques use high-capacity crucibles fed by relatively complex mechanical systems.
