4. Conclusion and outlook

Sensory evaluation enables the various teams involved in innovation projects (marketing, R&D, quality) to use a common method dedicated to the creativity, development and production of cosmetic products. This method is accompanied by a diversification of sensory tools, enabling a reasoned methodological choice for finer adaptation to needs. Discriminative methods such as the triangular test are now used to address the issue of ingredient substitution. Quantitative descriptive profiling is used to establish the product's overall sensory specifications, and to check that these match market expectations. The alternative methods presented in this article are being developed to enable rapid sensory positioning of products and support prototype screening as early as possible. They also make it possible to integrate consumer perception items upstream in the process.
