1. Holoportation methods

There are three main methods of holoportation. The third, based on the use of volumetric capture, offers opportunities in terms of cost. This is the technique presented in this article.

1.1 Videogrammetry

A hundred or so cameras, synchronized to the frame (genlocked), film a character in a studio. The processed streams generate a point cloud for each image. Successive processes generate a high-quality 3D animated character in real time. The equipment required to implement this process is estimated at a minimum of 350,000 euros for around thirty cameras (source: 4D views).
