2. Recording formats

Recording formats on stand-alone media (optical disks or magnetic tapes) are assimilated here to container formats, as they enable digital media to be stored and exchanged in native or compressed formats.

2.1 On optical discs

Table 6 gives references for recording formats on optical discs, and specifies the formats of recorded media, which are native formats on media dedicated to recording digital audio, and compression formats for the others.
