1. Worldwide organization of standardization
At international level, there are three standardization bodies, the oldest of which is the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). This organization covers all areas of electrotechnology.
The purpose of the IEC is to foster international cooperation in all matters of standardization and conformity assessment (Conformity Assessment – CA) to standards in the fields of electricity, electronics, computing and associated technologies, and thereby to promote international understanding.
Alongside the IEC, the International Standardization Organization ( – ISO) is responsible for international standardization in all fields other than electrotechnology.
