4. Partnership agreements in electrotechnical standardization
As mentioned above, CENELEC works closely with the IEC. This cooperation has been described since 1991 in the Lugano Agreement, revised in 1996 by the Dresden Agreement, then in 2016 by the Frankfurt Agreement. From the outset, this agreement has conditioned the working methods of CENELEC's Technical Committees and the national standardization committees of its members.
A similar agreement exists between ISO and CEN, known as the Vienna Agreement.
The Frankfurt Agreement provides for the standardization work required by the CENELEC national committees to be undertaken first by the IEC; its aim is therefore to speed up the process of developing standards in response to market demands, and the joint publication and adoption of international standards.
