Overview
ABSTRACT
This article presents a simple approach concerning the sizing of the transformer and smoothing inductance of a forward type converter, based on the relationship identification between electrical and geometrical quantities. There is a significant difference in the way the magnetic circuits of the transformer and the inductance of a forward type converter function. Firstly, in the transformer, the power merely transits from the primary to the secondary. Then, in the inductor, the energy is stored and then returned. Although the procedure is the same, the sizing of the inductor is therefore completely different to that of a transformer.

INTRODUCTION
We present a simple approach to sizing the transformer and smoothing inductor of a forward converter, based on the identification of relationships between electrical and geometric quantities.
There is a profound difference in the way the magnetic circuits of the transformer and inductor of a forward converter work:
in the transformer, the power only flows from the primary to the secondary ;
in the inductor, energy is stored and then released.
From there, although the approach is the same, we'll end up sizing an inductor completely differently from a transformer.
