2. Transformer
2.1 Problem position
The first problem to be solved when sizing a transformer is choosing the magnetic core. We propose to establish a link between the transformer's electrical parameters (voltages, currents, power, transformation ratio, etc.) and its geometric dimensions, so as to ensure maximum power transmission in minimum volume.
The parameters involved in sizing the transformer of a forward converter are numerous, and many of them can only be estimated fairly approximately (winding expansion coefficient, efficiency, skin effect, eddy currents, losses in the magnetic circuit in non-sinusoidal signals, temperature rise, etc.) or chosen fairly empirically (operating frequency, maximum induction).
