4. Conclusion
The sizing of magnetic components (transformer and inductor) for forward converters is the result of a compromise between compactness, losses and cost. This compromise stems from the choice of material (permeability, saturation field, volume losses), magnetic core dimensions (winding area, core cross-section, volume) and winding characteristics (resistivity, conductor cross-section, number of turns).
The actual sizing process is iterative, based on the relationships and characteristics of the components, since consumer components have standardized values (such as magnetic core dimensions and conductor cross-sections). What's more, the number of turns is necessarily an integer, and some parameters can only be known a posteriori (such as efficiency).
