6. New types of concrete made with admixtures

6.1 Self-compacting concrete

These concretes are highly fluid, homogeneous and stable. They can be placed in molds and forms without the use of vibration.

These new concretes were only possible with the advent of new-generation superplasticizers. These products greatly increase the workability of concrete, without the risk of segregation.

The benefits are numerous, both in terms of installation speed and the elimination of numerous surface defects, and concern all parties involved:

  • adopted in prefabrication plants, they eliminate noise pollution;

  • On site, they can be used to make self-levelling concrete for paving.
