4.1.1 Enhancing plasticity

The process consists in fluidizing the concrete mix by rapidly dispersing cement particles, which normally tend to remain agglomerated on contact with water alone.

This dispersing effect is achieved by the electrostatic repulsion created by the presence of "plasticizing" molecules with identical signs, which stick to the surface of cement grains.
