21. Phytoremediation

Phytoremediation is the use of plants to treat soil contaminated on the surface by organic molecules or metals (figure 21 ). This technique is among the least costly and most time-consuming (up to three years). Phytoremediation is at the industrialization stage (several pilots have already been set up). It is expected to grow significantly in the years to come.
