4. Bitumen composition

The search for bitumen's chemical formula has been a passion for researchers for a very long time, and even today there are questions about its composition. The numerous works in the literature [5] describe a situation that can be summarized as follows.

The great complexity and variety of the hundreds of thousands of molecules that make up bitumen leads to its separation into large generic fractions whose characteristics and distribution will explain the bitumen's properties.
