3. Restraint systems for road bridges

The restraint systems include :

  • railings ;

  • slides ;

  • barriers.

  • The main purpose of guardrails is to protect pedestrians. Except in special cases where they are specially reinforced, they are not designed to withstand the accidental impact of a light vehicle (figure 7 ).
