 INTRODUCTION

The design of a staircase in a building, and the choice of its position and layout, are architectural problems that are dealt with in the Architectural Programs section of this treatise, along with building circulation. However, during the construction phase, ignorance or neglect of the corresponding practical data can lead to errors that detract from the quality of use and appearance of this important and highly visible element: they should therefore be briefly recalled, without developing their ergonomic or other justifications here. In the same way, the techniques used are the same as for any other part of the building, with the exception of a few particularities due to form and function, which need only be specified here, without going into the technology in detail.
