7. Implementing lithium storage
7.1 Description of the storage system
A storage system based on lithium-ion technology of over 0.5 MWh is usually delivered in standard containers (20, 40 or 45 feet).
The main components are the battery, converter and step-up transformer. Battery and converter may be in the same container or in separate containers, depending on the supplier. The transformer is installed inside the container-converter, or outside under cover. It can be double secondary to supply two converters, or a battery converter and a solar inverter.
Large storage units are made up of a set of containers connected to the power station's HV switchboard.
