7. Possible improvements to facilitate the use of Pu in OERs

The physical limitations of Pu recycling in standard LWRs are due to the consequences of neutron spectrum hardening.

As we have seen, in 900 CPY PWR reactors, certain adaptations were necessary to accept cores 30% loaded with MOX.

For the European Pressurized Reactor (EPR), these means of reinforcing the control system are included in the design, allowing partial loading of 50% MOX assemblies .

Some EPR system options are also being studied to enable 100% MOX loading.
