1. Terminologies and definitions
In the general sense of the term, die-cutting refers to all die-cutting operations performed on a press. The term also has a more precise meaning when we want to differentiate between the part of the tool (punch or die) that determines the geometry of the part being cut.
For this reason, we present below more precise definitions of terms used by the profession to designate the various cutting operations.

Die-cutting enables the contour of the blank or part to be created (see also trimming ), and for which the important part of the tool that ensures the dimensional accuracy of the part, taking into account the clearance, is the die (figure ).
