7. Conclusion

Traditional die-cutting on a press is an important operation in sheet metal forming. Performed alone or in conjunction with other forming operations such as stamping and bending, it has a major influence on the quality of the parts produced.

Cutting is the only shaping operation involving sheet metal fracture. As a result, the operation is complex, leading to the creation of a particular cut edge geometry, including the presence of a burr.

The forces developed by the tool are generally higher than for stamping or bending, resulting in greater wear in these parts of the tool. For this reason, the maintenance of press tools is often devoted to the upkeep and overhaul of stamping stations.
