2.1 General
Dimensional, geometric or surface finish specifications are written on a technical document and form part of the specifications for the expected product. Their transcription on a technical drawing makes them appear not in a textual language, but in a symbolic language, which requires, on the part of the writer and reader of the definition drawings, a knowledge of this language. Dimensional, geometric and surface finish specifications should only be mentioned on the drawing if they really meet a functional need (unnecessary implication in relation to manufacturing and control costs).
This language is based on international or national standards, which do not necessarily have the same meaning behind the same symbolism.
