9. Conclusion
The set of GPS specifications, comprising dimensional, geometric and surface finish specifications, gives the specifier considerable latitude in expressing his functional requirements. It is therefore essential that the specifier is familiar with its codification, and that the people deciphering the requirements noted on the drawings understand them according to a given frame of reference, i.e. that everyone speaks the same language.
To enable functional requirements to be expressed in ever finer detail, standards are evolving to complement current possibilities and harmonize the language as a whole, hence the importance of keeping an eye on standards in this area.
