4. Numerical simulation of self-pierce riveting
4.1 Setting up simulation data
Given the configuration of the self-pierce riveting process, the simulations can be carried out in 2D axisymmetric configuration. However, for ease of visualization, we present the 3D geometries of the various parts. The geometry is produced directly from the drawings of the various objects: rivet, sheet metal, riveting ring, clamp. Several rivet geometries (figure 12 ) and bolt geometries (figure 13 ), as well as different sheet thicknesses, can be modeled.
