1. General

1.1 Definitions

  • Thin sheet metal stamping is usually carried out on double-acting presses (see article on Presses [B 7 570] ) using tooling comprising (figure 1 ):

    • a punch on which the metal is bent and stretched;

    • a die to support the metal, which can sometimes be a counter-form (at least partial) to the punch;

    • a sheet clamp to hold the sheet in place and slow the flow of metal into the die.
