8. Process variants

Various processes derived directly from stamping are sometimes used for sheet metal working. As these techniques have been developed elsewhere [4] , we will limit ourselves to a brief review of the principle behind three of them, whose use is currently being extended.

8.1  Stretch-draw

The process consists in deep-drawing the sheet metal after putting it under tensile prestress (figure 13 ). This has the advantage of reducing stress gradients in the part, thus helping to reduce the propensity for wrinkling and springback.
