3. Dynamic problems

The dynamic behavior of a shaft line is fundamentally conditioned by the coupling. Incorrect selection can lead to torsional vibrations, resulting in shaft line failure (coupling or shaft breakage). When selecting a coupling, it is essential to analyze this phenomenon.

3.1 Nature of disturbance

The mechanical actions on a single shaft line (figure 19 ) are the driving and resisting torques that induce the machine's overall rotational motion, and the relative motion that can stress the shafts in often alternating torsion (shaft line torsional vibrations).
