6. Surface finishing of sheet metal structures

6.1 Degreasing

This operation is designed to avoid the risk of surface recarburization on parts that are to be heated (welding zones, parts prior to hot forming or heat treatment). Chlorine-free solvents must be used.

6.2 Surface repairs

Scratches or indentations formed during welding operations are acceptable only if they are not folded (recessed) or sharp-edged. Polishing with a belt or grinding wheel (minimum 120 grit) is normally sufficient to eliminate them.
