9.1 Oil aeration measurement
All systems installed on internal combustion engines and using fluids can be affected by the presence of gases in these fluids. This is particularly true of camshaft phasing units controlled by engine oil.
In the context of the research and development of internal combustion engines for the automotive industry, it became necessary to be able to measure the aeration level of engine oil. The presence of air considerably increases the oil's compressibility, making it less suitable for use as a hydraulic fluid. It also promotes cavitation erosion of certain engine parts (bearings, etc.).
