10. Flow measurement

The various flow rates that need to be characterized on the engine test bench are: intake air flow, exhaust gas flow (this can be calculated from intake air flow, boost pressure, fuel flow, etc.), injector flow and engine internal gas leakage rate.

10.1 Intake air flow measurement

Intake air flow is measured by tightly connecting a measuring device to the engine air intake.

In addition to their accuracy, the measuring systems to be used must offer the least possible pressure losses, so as to disturb the inlet pressure as little as possible.
