8. Air pollution
The contribution of motor vehicles to atmospheric pollution is very significant, due partly to engine exhaust gases and partly to evaporation losses. Measuring pollutant emissions requires special, expensive and highly accurate measuring equipment, with regular checks on calibration and drift.
8.1 Origin and measurement of evaporation losses
Evaporation losses consist mainly of volatile hydrocarbons.
