7. Laser velocimetry
Laser applications enable speed measurements to be made in the intake or exhaust ducts, as well as in the cylinder of research engines. These tests are generally carried out on single-cylinder research engines fitted with the necessary optical equipment. They are always very delicate tests, requiring great care in preparation and analysis of the results. In the case of visualization in the cylinder of a running engine, it is necessary to install sighting windows and check that engine vibrations do not cause significant variations in the laser's aiming point in the cylinder.
