6. Conclusion
Tons of date palm waste in the form of stipes, palms, fibers and even dates are thrown away every year, hence the need to find suitable outlets for them.
Many applications are possible: for example, as reinforcement in composites, whether cement, plaster or thermoplastic resins. Another possibility is the production of activated carbon for subsequent use as an adsorber or energy store. Particleboard and synthetic or natural resins derived from date palms are being manufactured, and are proving their worth in the furniture industry.
Poor-quality dates can be used to produce biopolymers, biofuels, biosurfactants, organic acids, antibiotics and enzymes using fermentation technologies.
