2. Characterization of date palm fibrous material

2.1 Stipe anatomy

The stipe of the date palm is composed of vascular bundles held together by connective tissue; towards the periphery, where the leaf bases are integrated, the tissue tends to become more lignified and hard . Microscopic observations of date palm anatomy have been made; unlike ordinary wood, date palm is made up of vascular bundles surrounded by parenchymatous cells.
