artificial metalloenzyme
Laboratory-prepared metalloprotein capable of catalyzing a specific chemical reaction.
protein variant
Also called "protein isoform", member of a set of very similar proteins that originate from a single gene or gene family and are the result of genetic differences due to mutations, deletions... While many perform identical or similar biological roles, some isoforms have unique functions.
directed evolution
Biotechnology that mimics natural evolution in an accelerated way in order to modify the properties of a protein by modifying its gene sequence and selecting the desired variants. Directed evolution consists in creating genetic diversity from an initial gene and selecting the best variants for a given property (stability, activity, etc.)....
