1. Equipment description
1.1 Principle of the transmission method
As the system is designed for ultrasonic testing by transmission, the ultrasonic transducers are coupled to the part to be tested by two opposing horizontal water jets (ultrasonic waves do not propagate in air).
Inspection is performed by scanning the surface of the part to be inspected using transducers:
or in a vertical plane with maximum dimensions: 1.5 m (length) x 3 m (height) ;
a vertical cylinder measuring 1.3 m (radius) x 3 m (height).
The representation is C-SCAN (color scale representation of the measured characteristic in an X-Y plane; scanning of the object parallel to its surface).
