1. Wetting and dispersing agents
Over time, various additives have been developed, notably by BYK Chemie, for use in the molded compound market. Among these, wetting/dispersing agents are now an indispensable ingredient in the formulation of SMC/BMC.
Their success is based on the freedom they offer the formulator, making it possible to vary the filler or pigment ratio, use smaller particle size fillers, maintain a constant impregnation viscosity and ensure a more Newtonian behavior of the SMC paste on the production line.
We can generally describe additives as substances added to technical chemicals, in relatively small quantities, to improve certain properties, eliminate certain defects, or facilitate manufacturing, without influencing the chemical reactions.
