18. Finished sections
When the object to be investigated is no longer probed by infinitesimal sections, but by "slices", called "finite sections" with non-zero thickness (p. 28 of ), investigations are no longer carried out by affine sectioning, but by orthogonal projection. Objects are then known by their projections. For these projected objects (p. 25 of ), the relationships applicable to stereological functionals are neither as general nor as simple.
