4. Biobased products from plant resources
Paul COLONNA: Research Director - Institut national de la recherche agronomique (INRA), Paris, France
Plants provide applications for the chemical industry. Traditional processes for dyes, fibers and materials were based on know-how whose underlying scientific knowledge was only elucidated with the emergence of chemistry. The strategy for identifying a plant-use pairing is to start with the targeted use property and work backwards through the entire technological itinerary, right up to the choice of the plant producing the structures of interest. The aim is to define the reasoning keys for selecting a plant and its cultivation system with a view to developing a biosourced resource to satisfy a use function.
