By referring to the classification described in the article "Characteristics and treatment of sewage sludge" [G 1 450] , manufacturers can already get an idea of the possible disposal routes, depending on the physico-chemical properties of the sludge to be disposed of.

The table 1 gives an overview of these different routes, from the most favorable (sale or transfer of the waste to another manufacturer) to the most costly (disposal in a landfill for special industrial waste).
