1. The current state of source separation

Today, source separation is an approach to wastewater management that is promoted by many operators. It is sometimes presented as an innovative approach, sometimes as a "return to the garden shed". It is important to point out that, on the one hand, the World Health Organization (WHO) has taken the concept on board and, on the other, that source separation practices are based on the sorting of wastewater.
