3. Measurement sensors and instrumentation

Sensors are "instruments whose purpose is to transform a quantity to be measured, located or detected into another quantity accessible to our senses or to the organs of an acquisition and processing system in order to characterize or know the state of a machine or an environment, or a behavior" . The instrumentation of a process is therefore a problem that needs to be well defined before attempting to solve it. It is often the case that a sensor is implemented because it is available, rather than first and foremost studying the relevant measurement to be carried out.
