20.1 Field of application

These include materials made of glass, crystal, ceramics, glass-ceramics and enamelled objects, which in their finished state are intended to come into direct contact with foodstuffs, products and beverages.

  • Glass is a non-metallic, inorganic material obtained by the complete melting of raw materials at high temperature to form a homogeneous liquid, which then cools to a rigid state, essentially without crystallization. Glass objects can be plain and/or decorated.

  • Ceramics are a mixture of inorganic materials, generally with a high clay or silicate content, to which small quantities of organic materials may be added....
