3. Regulations and standardization
The objectives of the Codex Alimentarius are to :
protecting consumer health;
ensuring legal practices in the food trade;
promote work on food standards;
develop standards and modify those already published to adapt them to developments in scientific, technical and economic knowledge.
Regulations have evolved to protect consumer health and safety. The 1993 deadline for the completion of the Community's internal market has led to an accelerated overhaul of French food law, which must guarantee consumer health and the quality and competitiveness of French products.
