3. Plasma display physics

As we've already explained in terms of principles, the operation of plasma screens is based on two successive energy conversions:

  • gas discharge which converts electrical energy into VUV (Vacuum UV) photons;

  • photoluminescence of luminophores, which converts VUV photons into visible photons.

We will now describe the basic concepts of these two physical phenomena, and their particularities in the case of the PAP application.
