5. Conclusion

As we have seen, the introduction of digital voltmeters on the market represented a definite step forward in terms of measurement accuracy, the elimination of any ambiguity in reading the value, and the possibility of using them in data acquisition chains thanks to their possible interfacing with a computer.

Nevertheless, when using a voltmeter, it's important to pay close attention to the intended use, and not to have any preconceived ideas about using a digital voltmeter. In fact, apart from monitoring a changing value, for which an analog voltmeter is irreplaceable, digital voltmeters are often not practical for measuring rapidly changing voltages.

Example

i.e. a voltage of 1 V to be measured, and let's assume that this voltage varies by several hundred p.p.m. very rapidly over time.
