4. Limit gauges

4.1 General

A gauge can be defined as a specialized instrument that materializes a length, profile or volume, designed to verify that one or more dimensions of a part meet set limits.

There are three types of gauge:

  • gauges with fixed limits, usable only for the size and limits for which they were designed;

  • gauges with adjustable limits, which can be used, after adjusting their dimensions to the limit dimensions to be verified, over the measuring range that characterizes them;

  • Indicator gauges that can also give values for deviations from limit dimensions....
