Today's three-dimensional measuring equipment has the advantage of being versatile and flexible. They are capable of characterizing all the requirements discussed in this article, with measurement uncertainties that are in some cases greater than with metrology laboratory equipment, but which are sufficient for the vast majority of industrial parts. As checking a shape defect requires a large number of measurement points, the use of this type of equipment enables rapid acquisition of a large number of points on the surface to be inspected.
