2. Verification of metrological performance

2.1 Developments in standardization

In the early years of CMMs, specifications only specified partial tolerances on geometric parameters. The most frequently specified characteristics were :

  • orthogonalities,

  • straightness deviations,

  • positioning accuracy errors.

Acceptance inspections and maintenance operations were usually limited to these parameters.

Gradually, and in parallel with the arrival of geometric error correction software, the lack of interest in these specifications became apparent.
